There are pros and cons to nuclear power in the world. I disagree that nuclear power should be promoted for the following three reasons.
First, security. I think nuclear power plants are not always safe even nowadays. Concerning nuclear power, security must be stricter than any other field, because the accidents cause people a tremendous amount of damage. For example, Fukushima nuclear power plant was destroyed by the earthquake and the disaster happened. The local people had to evacuate and were unable to return to their hometown. Their normal life was completely rooted out by the accident. No one can compensate their life. Once soil is contaminated by nuclear waste, it takes a long time to restore the original condition. In short, the damage caused by the accident of nuclear power plant is huge, but you cannot completely control nuclear power plants and their facilities. Nuclear technology is comparatively new in modern technologies. There are many things we cannot foresee tackling against accidents. In addition, once it could happen, it is irretrievable, and it takes a lot of time to restore.
Second, nuclear power seems to be cost-effective, in reality, it needs a huge cost. We have to spend costs such as maintenance costs to keep the plants safe and storage costs. Actually, nuclear power generation needs a spacious storage space where nuclear wastes are kept. The more you use nuclear fuel, the more space you need. We have to build the storage space to run nuclear power plants smoothly, therefore, nuclear power is not cost-effective.
Third, there are other ways we don’t have to rely on nuclear power. For example, solar power, wind, geothermal, hydrogen power generation exist. We should develop alternative energy sources.
In conclusion, those three reasons, security, cost, alternative energy sources, I think nuclear power should not be promoted.
